December Fishing Report
December is always a good month for fishing in the Top End. Windless days and calm seas make perfect conditions for offshore fishing charters. Darwin fishing charter action really hots up in the period before Xmas with many end of year work fishing trips and friends and family visiting Darwin.
Big jewfish have come back on the bite again much to the delight of many of our guests this month. Their destinctive soft bite so often decieves people into thinking "it's a small fish" and then.....hold on!! Yep, just got alot bigger, too funny sometimes. The best thing about catching jewies is they are nearly all 1m+ and pull like trains.
There have been some big schools of queenfish along the inshore reefs. Average size is around 5kg which is not huge but plenty of fun with tripple hook ups and queenfish flying out of the water and getting some serious air time.
Golden snapper are still fishing well as they always do in December and should continue into the new year.
The monsoons have held off right up untill the end of the month which was great to be able to get so mant good days on the water. The start of the new year has seen the first monsoon arrive with good rain and local flooding. We just hope it keeps coming for now and turns into a cracker wet season which should make for excellent fishing come "run-off" time in March.
If your looking for a Darwin fishing charter, we would love to show you some of the best fishing the Northern Territory has to offer.
