Barramundi fishing - Finniss River
Fishing Report June 2014
The barra fishing has been hooting up in the Finniss River, with some good catches of quality fish lately. On one day in the river our crew landed 12 good barramundi to 90cm. We also hooked what we thought was going to be an absolute horse of a barra and after a 20 minute battle turned out to be a 42lb jewfish, not a bad effort on barra gear. The neap tides are producing the best barramundi fishing, when water clarity is maintained and the fish have no trouble seeing the lures. The best technique has been slow trolling over collapsed mangrove banks jigging the lures over the snags. Barra classics have been the lure of choice in most of the fluro patterns. Crabbing in the river is patchy this year which leads us to Bynoe Harbour for the best crabbing results, there are always monster muddies in Bynoe and the cool weather really brings them on. For a barramundi fishing charter out of Darwin the Finniss River is a good option if your looking to catch quality salt water barra.
